What is Language ED Visa?

A Thailand Language ED Visa (Education Visa) allows international students to legally stay in Thailand while studying. Depending on the course and program requirements, the visa can be extended from an initial 3 months up to 1 year.

To apply, students must first obtain an approval letter from the Ministry of Education (MOE), which typically takes around 20 days to process. After approval, the visa stamping process usually takes an additional 15 days. Overall, the ED visa application process generally requires approximately 45–60 days to complete.

Thailand ED Visa Eligibility Requirements
Foreign nationals holding a 60-day Tourist Visa or entering Thailand under a Visa Exemption scheme (14, 30, 60, or 90 days) are eligible to apply for a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa within Thailand.Please note that applicants holding other types of visas are generally not eligible to convert their current visa status to an ED visa or apply for an ED visa extension.

Applicant Requirements for a Thailand ED Visa
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and must have no history of visa overstays or criminal offenses.

Visa Processing Time & Stay Requirement
The ED visa application process typically takes approximately 45–60 days to complete. If your remaining permitted stay in Thailand is less than 45 days, you may be required to apply for a 30-day visa extension before starting the ED visa process.

Passport Requirements for ED Visa Application
To apply for a Thailand student visa, your passport must have at least 6–12 months of remaining validity and enough blank pages for visa stamps and extensions.

Visa Status and History
If you previously held a Non-Immigrant visa, such as an Education or Business visa, with a validity of less than one year, you must obtain an official visa cancellation stamp in your passport before applying for a new ED visa.Additionally, applicants who have previously studied under a Language ED visa are required to enroll in a different language program when applying for a new ED visa.

How to apply for the Language ED Visa in Thailand

School Registration

Students are required to visit the school in person to complete registration. Please bring the following:
