What is Language ED Visa?

A Thailand Language ED Visa (Education Visa) allows international students to legally stay in Thailand while studying. Depending on the course and program requirements, the visa can be extended from an initial 3 months up to 1 year.

To apply, students must first obtain an approval letter from the Ministry of Education (MOE), which typically takes around 20 days to process. After approval, the visa stamping process usually takes an additional 15 days. Overall, the ED visa application process generally requires approximately 45–60 days to complete.

Thailand ED Visa Eligibility Requirements
Foreign nationals holding a 60-day Tourist Visa or entering Thailand under a Visa Exemption scheme (14, 30, 60, or 90 days) are eligible to apply for a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa within Thailand.Please note that applicants holding other types of visas are generally not eligible to convert their current visa status to an ED visa or apply for an ED visa extension.

Applicant Requirements for a Thailand ED Visa
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and must have no history of visa overstays or criminal offenses.

Visa Processing Time & Stay Requirement
The ED visa application process typically takes approximately 45–60 days to complete. If your remaining permitted stay in Thailand is less than 45 days, you may be required to apply for a 30-day visa extension before starting the ED visa process.

Passport Requirements for ED Visa Application
To apply for a Thailand student visa, your passport must have at least 6–12 months of remaining validity and enough blank pages for visa stamps and extensions.

Visa Status and History
If you previously held a Non-Immigrant visa, such as an Education or Business visa, with a validity of less than one year, you must obtain an official visa cancellation stamp in your passport before applying for a new ED visa.Additionally, applicants who have previously studied under a Language ED visa are required to enroll in a different language program when applying for a new ED visa.

How to apply for the Language ED Visa in Thailand

School Registration

Students are required to visit the school in person to complete registration. Please bring the following:

  • Your passport
  • Thai phone number
  • Passport-sized photo (Size 2” inch or 3.5 cm. x 4.5 cm. , White background)
  • Tuition fee
  • TM -30

ur school will assist with submitting the required documents to the Ministry of Education on your behalf. The approval letter is typically processed within 20–30 days. Once approved, students may collect the official approval letter from the school to proceed with their ED visa application.

ED Visa Application

  • The school will schedule an appointment for students to collect their documents. Documents can be picked up at the school between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the assigned appointment date.
  • After receiving the documents, students must submit them at the Government Complex on the appointment date provided by the school, between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
  • Required Documents: TM.30 form, visa documents issued by the school, passport, Thai phone number, and a visa application fee of 2,000 THB.
  • Photo Appointment at the School: Immigration officers may conduct photo appointments at the school on short notice. We strongly recommend that students remain in Bangkok during this period.
  • ED Visa Stamp at the Immigration Office: Please attend your scheduled appointment at the immigration office to receive your ED visa stamp. Kindly bring your passport and the appointment receipt (blue slip) with you.
  • Submit Passport Information to the School: After receiving your ED visa stamp, please send a photo of your visa page to the school’s LINE group for visa extension processing.

Important Notes

  • Your ED visa validity period begins on the date your documents are submitted to the immigration office.
  • The immigration processing period is approximately 16 days from the date of application until the ED visa stamp is issued.
  • Please ensure that you are dressed appropriately when visiting the immigration office.
